2. OBJECTIFS DE LA FORMATION
This MA Program in “Applied Linguistics and ELT” is comprehensive in its scope and designed to introduce students to the theoretical, empirical and practical dimensions of applied linguistics and the teaching of English. The Program emphasizes both theory and practice. Its interdisciplinary core curriculum includes courses in:
• Basic theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics
• Psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics
• Discourse analysis and research methods
• ESL/EFL methodologies
• Language policy & planning
3. COMPETENCES A ACQUERIR
The program has a particular appeal to students wishing to become teachers / language teachers with some experience who are seeking a further qualification. It is also especially suitable for in-service teachers with responsibility for language matters, and for language graduates who wish to set their studies in the context of modern research on applied linguistics, It is worth to mention too that this MA program has been developed relying of major similar programs provided by famous international universities like CELTA, Iowa State University and the University of Manchester..
It sets for itself the development of the following competences:
1- To help bridge the gap between the department of English in general and the faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in general and the socio-economic environment.
2- To realize the university reform objective concerning creating job-oriented modules and professional B.As functioning as a
‘passerelle’ opening up on the job market
3- To develop trainees’ fluency and accuracy in using the English language for personal and professional purposes.
4- To improve their knowledge in the foundations of linguistics, including phonology, syntax, discourse and pragmatics.
5- To acquaint them with the main theories of learning, teaching, and second language acquisition.
6- To provide them with the practical skills, strategies, and knowledge for designing courses, planning lessons, and delivering material to learners employing a wide range of pedagogical techniques.
7- To enable them to connect theory with practice by providing experiences in authentic classroom settings.
8- To raise their awareness of research in applied linguistics/TEFL and EdTech
9- To equip them with up-to-date ICT skills in teaching English.
